So, I think I’m getting back on track with my sewing! Even though I have work in a couple hours, I cleared all of the crap (workout clothes, gym shoes, headphones, bus transfers, etc.) that had collected on my desk off and got through a few quilting lines. I find myself getting frustrated at the difficulty of quilting something this large with my machine, so I think slow and steady will win the race here. A few quilting lines a day, and one day I’ll be done.
As a side note- I really like the top of my desk being clear. Anyone have any ideas for organizing fabric? I was thinking shelving- are there any ideas you use/like? If you don’t mind the gym and yoga stuff of top, this is how much stash I have right now and it is out of control.

Ferdinand is too cute! As for wrangling your stash, I have an embarrassing amount of it. I don’t have the room for shelving at the moment, so I keep mine in large plastic bins, sorted by color. Some bins are clear, while others are solid, and both have their advantages. For obvious reasons, it’s nice to see what’s inside the bins without opening the lid, but on the downside, your fabric can fade while in the clear bins due to light exposure (even if they’re not stored in direct sunlight). The dark bins protect my fabric, but I have no idea what’s in them until I unstack the pile and open the lids. I’m not organized enough to put a label on the outside noting what the contents are. That would be way too easy.
We are in the middle of remodeling our kitchen and I keep wandering in there thinking what a great sewing space it would be, lol. My husband is not amused.
There is a bookcase at Ikea, called the “Billy” and it has an additional set of doors that you can buy to close everything off. I use two of these for stash because I can put fabric, ribbons, thread and my sewing and quilting books in one spot. The doors are glass front, which is so nice because you can see what you have and keep the dust off of everything! It is not very expensive, but I wish it was more “me” and less “Ikea”, so I have been scouting second hand shops for a bookcase with doors and will probably move these into the basement for other storage once I find something I like better. Hope this helps! Can’t wait to see your finished quilt!
It’s been a long time since you’ve posted. I hope that is because you are spectacularly happy and don’t have time to blog! But, we miss you here!!! Be safe & take care!
