There is a bookcase at Ikea, called the "Billy" and it has an additional set of doors that you can buy to close everything off. I use two of these for stash because I can put fabric, ribbons, thread and my sewing and quilting books in one spot. The doors are glass front, which is so nice because you can see what you have and keep the dust off of everything! It is not very expensive, but I wish it was more "me" and less "Ikea", so I have been scouting second hand shops for a bookcase with doors and will probably move these into the basement for other storage once I find something I like better. Hope this helps! Can't wait to see your finished quilt!

Ferdinand is too cute! As for wrangling your stash, I have an embarrassing amount of it. I don't have the room for shelving at the moment, so I keep mine in large plastic bins, sorted by color. Some bins are clear, while others are solid, and both have their advantages. For obvious reasons, it's nice to see what's inside the bins without opening the lid, but on the downside, your fabric can fade while in the clear bins due to light exposure (even if they're not stored in direct sunlight). The dark bins protect my fabric, but I have no idea what's in them until I unstack the pile and open the lids. I'm not organized enough to put a label on the outside noting what the contents are. That would be way too easy.
We are in the middle of remodeling our kitchen and I keep wandering in there thinking what a great sewing space it would be, lol. My husband is not amused.

Ashley,
OMG!! I am so glad to hear from you! I began to worry because it had been so long since you posted and that wasn't like the new you, the sober you. I am so glad that you are enjoying your job and learning lots. Make time for sewing when you can, and know you are still prayed for every night. My prayers have been answered to hear that you are doing well!!

Don't give up. Things do get better. It just takes time.

I am 43 years old and in the past two years came to accept that I don't know what I look like. And it doesn't matter. What I look like isn't who I am. Perhaps someday things will be different, but right now that is the way it is.

Fortunately, no matter how I look I can still quilt, right?!

Hi Ashley,I am not sure whether I've cotmenmed before, but I've been reading your blog for several months (and actually worked my way back for a couple of years of entries though not all the way to the beginning yet). I find your blog completely inspirational, plus it has led me into all of the other modern quilting blogs. I bought my first Kona solids the other day (they should be arriving next week), and I'm so excited to try a lot of the techniques/concepts that I've read here. I hope you'll just keep on with what you are doing you are fantastic! Congrats on 3 years! ElleP.S. I'm a horrible blogger, but I mentioned your blog as being inspirational on my blog and I'm hoping to do better about posting and photography after seeing how much enjoyment I get from every one of your new posts!
